Monteverde, Costa Rica

For our next stop for slow traveling, we find ourselves in Monteverde, Costa Rica.
Nestled in the mountains about 3 hours away from the capital, San Jose, one can find a small town. Originally, Creole populations arrived in the early 20th centry [0]. Later, Quakers escaping the military-industrial complex in the US took the advice of judge and decided to buy land and settle in Monteverde. Costa Rica had recently abolished its army in 1949, aligning with the Quaker value of pacifism.
These days, roughly 6,000 folks inhabit the Monteverde area. However, about 200,000 tourists pass through the area per year. We have found the community diverse, welcoming, and balanced.
